Season Summary
The 1960–61 FIBA European Champions Cup marked the beginning of Olympiacos’ history in European basketball.
The Reds entered the competition as Greek champions and were drawn against Galatasaray in the Preliminary
Round. Olympiacos played its first European game on 23 November 1960 in Istanbul, losing 72–41. In the return
leg in Piraeus on 11 December, Galatasaray won again, 65–55, and advanced 137–96 on aggregate. Olympiacos
therefore finished its inaugural European campaign with an 0–2 record, scoring 96 points and allowing 137.
CSKA Moscow ultimately won the 1960–61 European Champions Cup, defeating three-time defending champion Rīgas ASK
in the two-leg final.
