Olympiacos returned to Europe’s premier club competition in 1976–77 and competed in Group E of the new
Quarterfinals Group Stage format introduced by FIBA that season. The Reds faced Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv,
Sinudyne Bologna and Dinamo București, finishing fourth with a 2–4 record. Both victories came in Piraeus:
84–80 against Dinamo București and 81–79 against Sinudyne Bologna. Olympiacos scored 449 points and allowed
531 for a −82 differential. Maccabi won Group E, later reached the championship game in Belgrade and defeated
Mobilgirgi Varese 78–77 to capture the European title.
Dinamo București 74–71 Olympiacos. The official FIBA archive records the score as 94–71
on 25/11/1976. Using 94–71 reconciles the six game results exactly to the official/Wikipedia Group E total
of 449 points scored and 531 allowed.
